Sleep Rules Everything Around Me by WUGAZI
As brought to you by the Doomtree crew. Excited?
From The Complete Landings, released 28 June 2011.

It’s been over 10 years since I last visited Bangladesh; even longer since I was in India. I’ll be going back in July for the monsoon. I love the monsoon – it reminds me of long, hot summers spent in Chittagong. I realise rain’s not for everyone as it causes terrible flooding which I shouldn’t romanticise over, but I used to love watching the rickshaws being pulled by the drivers who would arch their backs to get their full bodyweight onto their pedals while the blades of the tyres cut through the water. Bangla travel has always fascinated me: colourful rickshaws and buses; packed out trains; the relative solitude of a buzzing baby taxi.
My trip this year will take in Dhaka – Kolkata – Murshidabad – Andaman Islands. That’s quite exciting for me as there’s a lot of history tied to all those places – from the days of the Raj to a more tangible, deep personal history. I’ve decided to use the opportunity to capture as much of my trip as possible on film (HD footage and 35mm). I don’t know what the outputs will be, but it will be a good record for me if nothing else.
A fortnight is not a long time in such vast countries, and there will be much to do, see and feel. With the feelings of excitement come those of trepidation and fear: it’s safe to say that there will be challenges. So I will, again, be stepping further away from my dwindling dabbling in music journalism, and moving forward into more personal, creative and involving territory.

Among the many things children love are chocolate, sweets, crisps, ice-cream and TV. It’s impossible to deny the link between a bad diet and obesity, but what about the unconscious musical implications assigned to adverts by confectionery conglomerates? I chose 25 of the most influential adverts from the ’70s through to the early ’90s, and listened closely to the accompanying jingles.
