Valleys of Neptune

By Ash in Musical Murmurings

There is to be a ‘new’ Jimi Hendrix album. Here’s a list of the studio out-takes deemed unworthy to be put out as official releases while the genius guitarist was alive.

‘Stone Free’
‘Valleys Of Neptune’
‘Bleeding Heart’
‘Hear My Train A Comin’’
‘Mr. Bad Luck’
‘Sunshine Of Your Love’
‘Lover Man’
‘Ships Passing Through The Night’
‘Fire’
‘Red House’
‘Lullaby For The Summer’
‘Crying Blue Rain’

A number of familiar tracks? Of course. How many posthumous releases will there be, Janine Hendrix?

“My brother Jimi was at home in the studio. Valleys of Neptune offers deep insight into his mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist.”

Yes – we already knew what an innovator he was. Quit scraping the barrel of archives, and leave the releases alone. Will these ‘new’, gloriously mixed tracks add anything to Hendrix’s canon / reputation? NO!

So, on March 9th, you can buy this pointless record along with the three studio albums (and First Rays of the Rising Sun) which are all to be reissued as spectacular CD/DVD compilations with documentaries and interviews… Smash Hits are Live at Woodstock are also be re-released.

Actually, I’d quite like a new copy of Smash Hits.
