With the BNP gain, I thought it a pertinent moment to once again draw attention to the hidden racism of our nation. I’m not saying that Britain is a racist country, and I’m not saying that the BNP made extraordinarily momentous gains, but this persistent prevalence still gives us all cause for concern.
Last year I, along with my friend Robert Curbishley, released a single to mark the 50th anniversary of the Notting Hill riots, a mere 10 years after the doors to Britain were opened to the Commonwealth. ‘Spit it out’ received good coverage by the media: XFM DJ John Kennedy supported it as did BBC DJs Tom Robinson and Bobby Friction. It was easily one of the best things we did and though the band continues, there is little hope for us making something as specific as this.
Anyway, it’s time for it to go out again. You can listen to the song, download it, do what you want with it. I just hope that it resonates somewhere within you and that it doesn’t cause offence.
